And your favourite is?......
The purple wrapped hazelnut and caramel chocolate, or the green wrapped hazelnut chocolate... perhaps even the blue coconut eclair or even the chocolate toffee finger...
Whichever one it is we all familiar with the familiar purple box. Often given as a Christmas present to family members, or perhaps received as birthday gift or even Mothers Day from the kids.
Of course we have our favourites... the one that gets unwrapped first and is slowly savoured.... my boys know not to touch the purple wrapped hazelnut and caramel chocolate... those are MINE! They can have the toffee!
We also have the shared memories with our loved ones... sharing a box during a movie, after Christmas lunch... kids dipping their sneaky hands into to the sweetie jar while nobody is watching. These are the kinds of memories we should be creating this time of year... something which our kids will remember well into their adult lives when they too are sharing a box of Quality Streets with their kids or grandkids... and reminiscing over happy memories...
We get so wrapped up in the big things we forget it is the small things that really do count. When last did you take time to
just talk to a loved one. Just sit with them and have a conversation. Doesn't have to be about earth shattering world events, politics or religion... it can just be about re-connecting and rediscovering each other. No interruptions from TV's, cellphones, iPads and the myriad of other devices that take our time and attention. We live such frantically busy lives we forget the simple things are often the best. Sadly it also means we live past those we love the most. We forget that we have to add just as much time and effort into those relationships as we do into our work, hobbies and acquaintances we are always so desperate to impress.
With the chaos my life was in I have been likened to a Catherine Wheel..... spinning out of control. I have lost countless Quality Street memories in the process. However I have promised to make this up to myself and those I consider vital to my life. Those people I love and who love me. This will mean more conversations, more board games, more walks on the beach, more stopping to smell the roses.. less just existing and more actual living. Less spinning.... less chaos....
I look forward to it... and to many Quality Street memories created in the process.
