My poor Rosie was attacked by monkeys yesterday... my heart breaks for her. She spent the night at the Vets and has just gotten home. Disorientated - both by what has happened to her and by the cone which is making navigating, eating and just being a dog, difficult for her.
She has numerous drains in her. Her lip has been ripped open and the wound under her chin is proving difficult and won't stop bleeding. The Vet says she has no defensive wounds... nothing showing she was trying to get away from them. I wonder why? Why didn't she retreat when they attacked? Maybe she was protecting little Eva - her constant shadow. She probably knew if the monkeys got Eva that she would've been ripped apart.
Even now she is wanting to get outside... she wants to do what she is best at. Protect our home. She doesn't understand why I'm keeping her locked inside. It''s twofold. To keep her safe and dry and let her wounds heal and to make sure the little dogs don't torment her! Of course the 3 Dashies are petrified of her. They are frightened by the cone around her head and keep barking at her. Just adds to the chaos!
Yet even through the pain she looks to me with complete trust. She knows I'm her 'mommy'. That I will take care of her.
There is nothing like the love of a pet. It is unconditional and true. No grudges are held.
If only humans were capable of the same.
