A true part of mindfulness is letting go of past hurts. If we constantly find ourselves circling back to the same hurt and reliving the same pain then we are not truly living in the present.
We all need to find a way to tell our story so that we can move forward. Yes it could well take years - it did for me. It is neither a quick fix or an easy task but it certainly is a worthwhile endeavour.
Who you choose to share the story with will also have a part in your healing as what you perceive to be a supportive friend could just be a gossip junkie revelling in your pain. So choose wisely and follow your gut.
But once you do get to that point that telling your story, or even just thinking about it, no longer consumes or controls you then you have reached a point of healing which opens up a whole new world of possibilities to you as you start a new journey firmly rooted in the present.
Learn and grow from your past but find a way to move into the present where you belong.
