"Music gives a soul to the universe,
wings to the mind,
flight to the imagination
and life to everything."

Music... an escape for us all.
How often in life do you find that the lyrics of a song speak for you when your words fail? Or that the soothing sound of an instrumental piece can help calm you down from an anxious moment. Music can mark some of the biggest moments of our life. The first kiss as a teenager. Your wedding song. Your go to break up song. The song you and your best friend jived to growing up or the song which marks the passing of a loved one. Almost any moment can be put to a song.
We often will find ourselves stilled as a song comes up and with it a box full of memories we weren't expecting. That is the power of music. It can invoke in us the strongest emotions we may ever experience.
Yet music, if we listen carefully, is all around us even when the radio is switched off. It is in the chirp of the birds in the morning, the bubbling of water running over the rocks, the pulse of the thunder on a stormy day. All we need to do is stop and listen. And understand that those sounds can also invoke memories if we pay enough attention.
My top 10 on my current playlist (according to what I play most often to the songs on my phone):
I also have a few arena songs - songs I need to listen to when I need to make sense of my world:
I love music and I was lucky to be raised in a home where music was a constant. With that I have an appreciation for all music, from current pop to The Beatles/The Bee Gees, Country and on to Opera music. I do tend to draw the line at Pink Floyd... but then we all have standards ;)
In thinking of memories I remembered a song that I used to dance to with my boys when they were young - Follow Me by Uncle Kracker - my boys would love it when I scooped them up in my arms and danced around the lounge to this. Now they both tower over me and this will be a memory I will cherish forever.
And of course another all time favourite is the Sunscreen Song - part of which I have on canvas on my wall in my room as a reminder (go look up the lyrics and you'll get it).
I do love the sound of silence (2 boys, 3 dogs, the 20 local cows and a busy life) and will often, when I get a moment to myself, switch off all electronic devices and just listen to the quiet. Music is a thread that connects us in this world. I believe that music is a universal language - just like a photograph. All it takes is for us to spread the good vibes amongst each other.
So go out there and find your song and sing it on top of your voice every chance you get.
Love Always
