I thought this would be an easy post... turns out it's not. How do you write about loving yourself without sounding a bit absorbed?
I often say to my kids I don't always like them or what they do but I will always love them. I guess that holds true for myself as well. Today I didn't like myself much - I got grumpy with a person who was lumped with the job of her 'sick' colleague and didn't have the background to assist me and I didn't have the time to go through all of it again. I know I didn't have to be snappy with her so I don't like myself much for my behaviour (I have since apologised!). But that doesn't mean I stop loving myself - grumpiness included.
Some days I'm going to be grumpy, other days I'll take the potholes more in my stride. I guess that is what it's all about - yin and yang. What I have learnt to manage now is to now allow "not liking myself" in the present moment stop me from loving myself 24/7. I'm perfectly imperfect. Like my kids I do things in the moment that I end up regretting but I can move past it and still be okay!
I guess that is what loving yourself just as you are is all about. Accept the imperfections that come with being human. Embrace it as part of yourself and don't allow the voices in your head to creep in to tell you how unworthy you are.
It holds true for those you love as well. Accept they will have bad days, just like you, it doesn't mean you stop loving them or they will stop loving you. Love is what builds the foundations of our lives and it starts with us showing ourself love and then passing it on to others. Love big. Love freely. And as my sign off says.....
Love Always
