So what are your New Years Resolutions? Same as last year and the year before perhaps...
The yearly trap we all fall into. Promises made to live healthier lives, have better connections with family and friends, give more to charity, and yet most of them are broken before we even hit 31st January... if we even ever make that first trip to the gym in the first place!
Why do we make them if we have no intention of keeping them? And then again why are we so weak that we cannot keep them? It creates a lot of stress and pressure which is not something any of us need more of.
As I have said 2013 has not been a good year... (the year in review is still to come) but there have been very good moments. I saw the idea of the memory jar towards the end of 2012 and really wanted to do it this year. Of course that 'resolution' fell on the wayside and I'm really disappointed I let it... there have been some really tough moments this year when I could've really benefitted from a happy memory jar... just to remind me in the quiet of the night why it is good to be alive.
So the one and only promise I make to myself going forward into 2014 is to have my memory jar ready and waiting to bank its happy memories. And it doesn't necessarily have to be a happy 'memory or event'. It could be something I'm simply grateful for on that particular day, or perhaps a quote which resonates, a sentence in a book or something said by a friend. Whatever it is on 31 December 2014 I want 365 happy and positive notes to reflect on...
We all need those positive vibes to keep our spirits up in this really tough and hard world we live in. My challenge to each of you is to find what works for you and bank the good in your life each day... you never know when you need to rely on those deposits.
