I set up this page with the intention of reviewing books I've read, both as a place mutual book lovers could wander over to when they wanted something to read, and also as a tracking system for myself over what I've read (I've been known to read something and realise near the end I've actually read it before!). It is no secret I'm a bookaholic... I have about 150 titles on my bookshelf and bought another 12 in the last 4 days... I will die with an unread list.
This is new on the shelves having been published this year so a good place to start! It was the image actually caught my eye before the title - so much for not judging a book by its cover.
Chanel No. 5 is my favourite perfume yet I've never read much about Coco Chanel or her life. In fact I don't recall ever even having seen an autobiography about her. Although this is a work of fiction the author has based it on books written about her.
It is essentially the story of Coco from childhood to death. Her grief at the abandonment by every man she had loved, starting with her father who walked out on her and her siblings. Life in a convent. Surviving 2 World Wars. What drew me was her strength of will and determination that in spite of it all she would succeed on her terms.
It isn't a 'chick-lit' book although it is an easy book to read on lazy afternoon. You can't put it down as you want to know what the next chapter of her life brought.
"Deliciously satisfying" was a term used for the book in a review and I spent a deliciously relaxing day in bed reading this.
